April 2008 Conference

What a great conference session! Being part of the Solemn Assembly was a wonderful experience. Even though Dad and I were watching on the internet in the computer room, when it came time for us to stand and raise our hand to sustain the new prophet and the newest member of the twelve, we did so with the greatest of gratitude and appreciation. That appreciation being that we have a testimony of the knowledge that President Monson is a true proophet of God and that the power of the priesthood is truly here upon the earth today. We are also appeciative of being able to hear the words of testimony from so many of the general authorities. We especially appreciated the things Elder Oaks said about testimonies and that we should bear witness of why we each have a testimony. It made me think back to why I have a testimony of the truthfullness of the gospel here on earth today. As weird and trite as this may sound, I truly don't remember ever not having a testimony. I can remember when I was in the fifth grade in Buhl, Idaho feeling that burning inside of me which told me the gospel was true. I remember standing in a fast and testimony meeting and saying that it was true. Now, after living these many years, I still know that the gospel has been restored here on earth for us to benefit from. I am so blessed to have this knowledge. What did you all think of General Conference.

Jayla's 7th Birthday Sleep-over

We love having the grandkids one at a time for a special sleep-0ver close to their birthday, so it was Jayla's turn. We picked her up and took her to Village Inn for dinner. She got to pick out her very own pie. She went for Strawberry -Rhubarb.

Next morning she helped Grandpa make green waffles.

She went with us to the church house because Gpa and Gma had the assignment to clean. She helped Gpa do the black boards. She found a little balloon, so Gma and Jayla had some diversion time in the foyer.
After that we headed over to the playground at Gma's school.

Wheeeee, Jayla!
Oooooooh, Grandpa!
Then it was swing time.

Here are some of Jayla's new Birthday Duds we bought when we went shopping at Target the night before. We even stayed until it was time for the store to close. When the announcement came on over the PA that is was time for the store to close, Jayla said, "I've never been kicked out of Target before!" We had a great time!
Thanks for hanging out with us, Jayla.

Our night out with Wendy

Yesterday was our day to go to the temple. It was great to be back doing our duties in the baptistry. We hadn't been there since before Christmas because of family being around and the fact that the temple was closed for a while. But it makes a very busy day for Dad and I. I take Dad to work on temple day so as soon as I am done with work I go straight to his office to pick him up. We get to the temple at about 5:45. We hurry and change and make ready for the youth group that is coming. They usually arrive between 5:15 and 5:30. Then we are busy until they are done at about 7:00 or 7:15. By the time we leave the temple is well past 7:30 at night. We haven't had any dinner yet so Dad and I are pretty hungry. So last night we headed to Wendy's. But this is what is good about that place. You can substitute good stuff in your meal instead of fries and bad stuff. I did have a fish sandwich (which is fried) but I had chili instead of the fries and milk instead of soda. The chili was so yummy especially because it was snowing. When we were done Dad looked at me and asked if I wanted to share a Frosty with him. But here is the great part. I said No. So neither one of us had one and we headed on our way home.

It has been great to read about each one of you and the things that you are planning to do to be more healthy. I am proud of you all. But I do have a question: You know those little pudding cups - the chocolate ones or the tapioca ones? Are they okay to have for a treat if you only have one?

Charlie - this post from youtube is for you and me.

The New Year and what to do with it.

I have no pictures at this time. This is just a post about something that plagues most of us and right now is raising its ugly head again to me. It is a two part problem - losing some weight and becoming more active on a daily basis.

Here is my reality. I am an overweight Grandma who has been taking high blood pressure medicine (along with a myriad of other medicines for the unending arthritis) for a few years. Well, it hasn't been working so well. So I made an appointment with the Dr. (my blood pressure in the Dr.'s office was 160 over 90)and she has now changed my medicine. She didn't "harp" at me about my weight (although it is the highest I have ever been) or activity level, she just mentioned that losing weight could help me.

As some of you know, my preferred method of activity is walking. Well, I have been using every excuse not to go outside and walk. Here are some of those excuses, which on most days are quite legitmate. 1. I have no time 2. it is too cold 3. it is too windy 4. it gets dark too soon. Then there are those of you who remind me that I have an eliptical machine that is inside the warmth of my house.

This is what I am going to do. I will be sharing some of my thoughts and problems through the next few months and feel free to share some of your. So here are a few. Yesterday there were some goodies in the teacher's lounge. There was a big box of doughnuts and normally I would have picked one up and ate it, but I did not. I went for some fruit and a small muffin. Then today after I got my hair cut, I went for a walk for about 28 minutes. When I came back home I took my blood pressure. It was 124 over 62. Yea!
